When she heard about Jesus’ healing power, she pushed through the crowd and came up behind him and touched his prayer shawl. For she kept saying to herself, “If only I could touch his clothes, I know I will be healed.” Mark 5:27-28 (The Passion Translation)
There is something so life-giving to be found when reading about the woman with the issue of blood. Its verses resound with hope and paint an exquisite picture of who Jesus is. How blessed we are when we fall desperately abandoned into His loving arms with whatever it is that burdens us. There is nothing too small that He won’t notice and nothing too big that He is not able to handle. He holds it all!!
When thinking about this passage, I can’t help but ponder, the thousands of people seen over the years at the Coreluv medical clinic in Myan, Haiti. Just like the desperation in the woman with the issue of blood, many of these Haitians desperately spent hours walking in the hot sun or lengthily waiting just to be seen by a doctor. You see, desperation is a way of life for them and sometimes it’s their only hope to be relieved of what ails them. When you are desperate for something, there is nothing you wouldn’t do to grab hold of the blessing.
How about our pursuit of God? How long has it been since you’ve experienced desperation to know Him more? I don’t know about you, but I am hungry to see God move more this year than ever before. Our Coreluv staff as a whole is. That’s a prayer we’ve been praying together leading into 2018. We don’t want to GO unless God’s presence GOES with us! Coreluv works with a desperate people in underprivileged countries who need to experience a miracle working God. We desire to lay hold of Jesus with all of our hearts, and He desires to release miracles!!!
One way to cultivate desperation for God is by spending quality time with Him in prayer and deciding in our hearts to not hold back our adoration and affection for Him during times of worship. We mustn’t be afraid to push through the crowd even if it’s unpopular. It wasn’t politically correct for the woman with the issue of blood to present herself in public as she was considered unclean according to the laws and customs of her day. Jesus healed her because of her bold faith and her no matter what, all in approach to grab hold of Him. After all, He is the greatest Prize. May we become desperate for more of Jesus this year and may we go after Him with that same kind of abandonment!
We’re ALL IN!
