Internship Story: Lyndsay Woodall
Jan 4, 2020

I applied to be an intern with Coreluv the November of my Senior year of high-school. I had never been to Haiti before, I didn’t know anyone at Coreluv, and in hindsight, I don’t think I had the slightest idea of what I was getting myself into. The only way of convincing my mom even to let me apply for the internship was by telling her “I’ll probably never get it! I don’t even know anyone; there’s no way they’ll pick me!” Even as I was saying those words, The Lord knew that I was about to be in for the most life-changing three weeks of my life.

Fast forward to a little over a year after submitting my application, and my life has been changed in more ways than I ever could have predicted. I am a completely different person because of the things that I learned while in Haiti. To have almost a month of living away from the distractions that I had at home was imperative to my growth as a young person. Although I had made short mission trips in the past, this internship was different; after about two weeks in Haiti, it no longer felt quite as new and exciting as it did the first few days. Soon the feeling of adventure that comes with living in a foreign country wears off, and the lack of sleep starts to sink in. While I didn’t have air-conditioner, Chick-fil-A, or a particularly comfortable bed, The Lord gave me a heart full of love for the kids and the beautiful country that I began to care for so deeply.

As I was tearfully boarding my plane to go back home, I knew that no amount of cool air conditioning could make the idea of going back to Texas any easier. Through my internship, I went from someone who didn’t know if she was called to missions, to knowing in my heart that I could never do anything else.

If you are trying to decide if you are called to intern with Coreluv, I’ll just direct you to Mark 16:15! The Bible lays it out so clearly to us! Christ’s command “to go” should be sufficient to ease any worries of if you are called to missions. In Scripture, He says “to go into all the world. . . Proclaiming the gospel to the whole creation” (Mark 16:15). You can’t possibly go wrong by following what He commands us, trust the Lord to place you where He needs you. I found myself so guilty of trying to complicate and control The Lord’s plan for my life. “But Lord, what if this isn’t your will for me?” “How will I find the money?” Every single obstacle (and then some) He knocked down. The doors that He opened and the ways that He provided for me proved that I severely underestimated the God that I serve! The weeks that I had in Haiti have completely changed my outlook on what it means to live a life in service to Him. So what are you waiting for? “Get radical with the going and God will get radical with the specific guiding.”
