Obedience
May 22, 2018

What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice… 1 Samuel 15:22.

Mike and I had the privilege of meeting a group of our 2018 Haiti summer interns at the Coreluv offices a few weeks ago. They were here for a weekend orientation led by our School of Missions Directors, Chris, and Misty Brown. The purpose of the orientation was for our interns to get acquainted with our team and for our team to be able to prepare them for their upcoming journey on the mission field.

What I remember most about this group of young adults was most definitely their vibrant expectation of what this summer is going to hold for them. All of them feel God”s tug on their hearts to GO and be a blessing to the nations. Their obedience was evident by the joyful eagerness they carried to answer that call. It was moving!

Our summer interns enthusiastically soaking in what they’ll need to know while in Haiti!

When figuring out one’s purpose in life, one can easily over complicate things. I know this by experience!  Over the years I’ve discovered that the path to my purpose simply unfolds with each small step of obedience I take.

I can’t help but think about the lives of Abraham and Moses. God asked both of them to simply listen to His leading and to remain obedient each moment He asked them to move. Little by little, over time, their small steps of obedience birthed a mighty nation for God. Don’t take lightly what God is asking you to do today or next week or in the years to come. It most likely will take you down the path you are destined to be on!

Here is a saying we often speak within Coreluv:  “You never know who’s on the other side of your obedience!”

If you’ve met our children and Haitian staff in Haiti, you can clearly understand the magnitude of that statement!

As our Coreluv team was sharing some helpful advice with our newest interns, I felt the urge to change this quote up to apply specifically to their internship. “You never know WHAT’S on the other side of your obedience. You never know what’s on the other side of your internship!” As I reflected on Coreluv’s history, I recalled some impactful testimonies from past interns.

Coreluv has had interns who came to Haiti just to serve with us for three weeks (so they thought). God touched some of those interns in such a way that He spoke part of their destinies into existence. They said yes to that call and later went on to live in Haiti as full-time Coreluv missionaries. Oh, the stories they’ll be able to share with their children and grandchildren one day!  Simply because they obeyed the voice of God. Never the same!!

We’ve also had a previous intern who now serves as a full-time missionary discover his desired occupation in life. Over the course of his time in Haiti, he became so passionate about serving within Coreluv’s medical clinic that he is soon going to go to medical school to be used in medical missions!  How’s that for one small step of obedience leading to our purpose in life?!

You never know what’s on the other side of your obedience. Don’t take the small leadings of God lightly!  God can change the whole course of your life if you’ll simply obey!

Our 2018 summer interns not only passionately worshipping God with their voices but also with their lives of obedience!

Defending the Orphan goes beyond one day, one week, one month, even beyond one year. It is a daily call to care for and pray for the children we have been entrusted with. We could NOT do what we do without each and every one of our partners. It takes all of us together to make a difference in the lives of these children, daily providing their six basic needs of clean water, proper food, healthcare, education, job skills and a Christ-centered loving home. If you are not already an Orphan Care Partner, you can become one today. Visit our  Orphan Care Partnership Page for more info. Thank you.
