One Trip, a Lifetime of Purpose: Why I Choose to Defend the Orphan
Rebecca Mudd never imagined the eternal impact one trip would have on her heart and her faith. In 2015, when she signed up for a mission trip to Haiti with Coreluv International, she expected to serve, but she couldn’t have anticipated that God would forever transform her perspective and purpose.

She went on the trip with certain expectations of how she might serve, but God had a much bigger purpose in mind. Meeting the children that Coreluv serves was unlike anything she had imagined. “I didn’t realize the impact that would have when I saw the kids, heard their stories, knew their names, played with them, loved on them. It forever changed my life.”
Meeting Mawens
In Haiti, Rebecca met a young boy named Mawens, and that connection became one of the most important aspects of her journey. “Mawens is one reason also why I Defend the Orphan,” she says, holding a small gift Mawens gave her on that first trip. Their friendship has blossomed over the years, with Rebecca and her family regularly praying for Mawens and the other children Coreluv serves. “We’ve had a relationship together since that trip in 2012.”
Although unrest in Haiti has kept her from returning, Rebecca remains deeply connected to Coreluv’s mission. The experience inspired her to continue her support from afar and consider traveling to Coreluv’s other ministry locations. “I’m praying about going to Honduras and meeting all those awesome kids there that God continues to use Coreluv to care for.”
Fulfilling Scripture
Rebecca’s commitment to Defend the Orphan is grounded in Scripture. She highlights James 1:27, which calls believers to care for orphans, and Isaiah 1:17, which urges us to defend the helpless. “God calls us to Defend the Orphan,” she says. “It’s not a suggestion.”
