Internship Story: Shelbie Morgan
Jan 4, 2020

It would be an understatement to say that getting accepted into the July 2016 internship with Coreluv changed my life. I was one of 8 interns that month and extremely nervous as it was my first international mission trip. I had felt a gentle pull in my heart towards this unknown country and decided to take the leap of faith and GO.

Upon arriving, it was immediately clear that God had many things to teach each of us, interns, that month. For me, it was seeing the incredible measure of my self-centeredness and general apathy toward the suffering in this world. We spent countless hours loving on the precious kiddos under Coreluv’s care, worshipping with the amazing people of the surrounding Haitian villages, and bonding together as a Coreluv intern family. We led short-term missions teams, hosted sports camps, bible lessons, and played countless games of soccer. We served in a medical clinic that serviced hundreds of people, which enabled us to help share the life-giving gospel of Jesus Christ with every single patient.

I was challenged physically, emotionally, and spiritually every day – but I can genuinely say that it was the absolute best month of my life. I came back realizing that a life of ministry surrounding foster care and adoption was my calling, which led me to change my college major and start to pursue God’s will for my life surrounding that calling.

Throughout the internship, I grew in faith that God IS who He says He is – our wonderful Father, Father to the orphan, and Father to me. All of us July 2016 interns are still extremely close, and always will be. Looking back, I see so much of God’s kindness in His leading me to Haiti and so desire others to experience what I did.
